Within the framework of Civil Society and Democratic Culture Binaa Democracy and Development organized 2 days workshop titled “Nonviolence and Social Change ” between 9th to 11th May 2024. The activity brought together 16 participants from different communities in Kampala representing different places in Sudan such as ( Jazeera state, Darfur region, Kordofan, Senar, northen state and Khartoum.
At the workshop’s opening session, the training coordinator presented the project’s general plan, its strategic objectives, together with the purpose of the activity, and the expected outcomes.
Additionally, the Kampala office director provided a comprehensive overview of the Binaa for Democracy and Development organization, its goals, vision, and mission.
Then, the workshop facilitator initiated a discussion, elaborating on the concepts of nonviolence in detail, including dissecting the term violence and discussing its various types and forms. The session witnessed interactive discussions among the participants, who effectively shared their experiences and opinions.
On the second day, the workshop facilitator focused on the principles of nonviolence and social change campaigns, providing exercises to build trust and stimulate creative thinking, in addition to exercises related to gender-based violence. Discussion sessions also included reviews of practical experiences and case studies on issues of nonviolence and social change.
Before concluding, the workshop was evaluated by the participants, who expressed their opinions and feedback on the training and its content overall. The evaluation generally praised and thanked the Binaa for Democracy and Development organization and the workshop facilitator. Participants called for more workshops in the future and recommended that Binaa for Democracy and Development develop a nonviolence methodology as a foundation for democracy and societal change.
Thus, Binaa for Democracy and Development reaffirmed its commitment to raising awareness about nonviolence issues and promoting nonviolence principles in society, effectively meeting the needs and aspirations of the participants. The closing session of the workshop was honored by:
Mr. Abdelmajid, Director of the African Organization for Rights and Development together with the Rights activist and Regional Working Group Coordinator Ms. Jehan Abdo, both of whom delivered words of support and encouragement to the Binaa for Democracy and Development organization and the workshop participants.
At the end of the activity, Binaa for Democracy and Development organization presented achievement certificates to all participants, reaffirming its ongoing commitment to promoting democratic culture and enhancing nonviolence principles in society to contribute to building a more tolerant and democratic community.
