As part of the celebrations of the centenary of the 1924 revolution, the Democratic Thought Project, in cooperation with Development Hub, Reading for Change, the Modernity and Development Magazine, Binaa for Democracy and Development, the African Organization for Rights and Development, and Adila Organization for Culture and Arts, with funding from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation – Sudan Office, organized a series of cultural and intellectual events throughout August 2024. These activities aimed to revive the legacy of the 1924 revolution and highlight its values and impact on shaping the Sudanese national consciousness. Through these celebrations, the 1924 revolution was introduced and its significant role in Sudanese history was highlighted, inspiring its values and lessons to face current challenges in Sudan, including war and political, social, and economic challenges. During these celebrations, books and publications aimed at understanding and analyzing the 1924 revolution and its impact on Sudanese national movements were launched.

Activity 1:
- Title: Symposium titled “Lessons Learned from the 1924 Revolution” and launching of the book “The 1924 Revolution and Modern Sudanese Thought”

- Details: The events began with the launch of Professor Mohamed Omar Bashir’s book, “The 1924 Revolution and Modern Sudanese Thought,” which highlights the intellectual legacy of the 1924 revolution and its role in shaping modern Sudanese consciousness. The event witnessed a large attendance of intellectuals, researchers, and those interested in Sudanese history.

- Title: Launch of the book “The 1924 Revolution and the Emergence of the National Movement in Sudan”

- Location: Adila Organization for Culture and Arts Headquarters
- Details: The symposium accompanying the book launch provided an in-depth analysis of the 1924 revolution’s impact on the emergence of Sudanese national movements, highlighting its role in forming national political awareness. Dr. Jaafar Mohamed Ali Bakhit’s book “The 1924 Revolution and the Emergence of the National Movement in Sudan” was launched.
Activity 3:
- Title: Play “The 1924 Revolution, People’s Struggle” performance
- Date: August 31, 2024
- Location: African Organization for Rights and Development Headquarters
- Details: The play “The 1924 Revolution, People’s Struggle,” authored by labor leader Abdullah Bashir Fadl, which is considered one of the most prominent theatrical works addressing the revolution’s events, was performed. After the performance, a symposium discussed the manifestations of diversity in the play, presented by Mr. Sir Al-Sayyid, with commentary by Mr. Adel Klar, and moderated by Ms. Najoud Mubarak. The event also featured a book exhibition showcasing the books launched during the celebrations.
It is recommended to organize similar events periodically to deepen the understanding and awareness of Sudanese national history. These events made a significant contribution to reviving the memory of the 1924 revolution and affirming its importance in Sudanese history. They provided a platform for spreading knowledge and stimulating discussion on how to inspire the revolution’s values in light of current challenges.
